Feature :

A devastating earthquake struck central Taiwan on September 21st, 1999 at 1:47:21AM . It was 7.6 Richter by USGS and 7.5 km in depth. Epicenter of the earthquake was at ChiChi, Nantou, which is about 12.5 KM west of the Sun Moon Lake. It is extremely shallow.

The sports ground of Kong-Fu Elementary School was right on the Chelongpu fault. Since the activities were seismically complicated, earth crust was raised. The eastside of the school's play ground raised by 2 meters. School buildings next to the playground were also damaged severely. The earthquake museum planned to preserve the sites of the playground and the school buildings after the earthquake to remind people the harm and hazard an earthquake could cause.

Introduction :
Kong-Fu Elementary School in Wu-Fung was located on the Chelongpu fault, and the campus was mostly destroyed by the September 21st earthquake. Seismic activities raised the playground and the runway by 2.5 meters and the three-story height school building next to the playground collapsed. Scenes after the earthquake were eye-catching and heart-shaking. September 21 st Earthquake Educational Park was found by the government in cooperation with non-official organizations on the old site of Kong-Fu Elementary School after the earthquake. Related photographs, objects and landscapes formed after the earthquake in other areas are all collected in the museum. Collections of the museum became important cultural, scientific, leisure and educational resources of the park.
