Features :
Mei-Fang Taro Popsicles were made from mashed taro mixed together with white sugar, flo u r and corn starch. The mixture was then stirred constantly for a period of time before putting in the freezer; and the square-shaped popsicles were meant to be easily carried around by customers The shape also helped preserve the ice popsicles for a longer period of time before melting. Compare to the traditional taro sorbet, the taro sorbet made in Hsao-Hou was more popular because of its finer texture, intense flavor, harder to melt and easier to preserve features . Of course, it was also charming because it is made from high quality materials. In addition, there are two reasons for the name ": Taro Popsicle" : The first reason is because there was only taro flavor popsicle when business first started, so it was named after that. The second reason is because among all flavors of popsicles, Taro flavor was the most popular. So, " Taro Popsicle " became the general name for all flavor popsicles.

Introduction :
Mei-Fung Popsicle City was found by Lin Yen in the summer of 1974 and it has been in business for over 30 years; Lin Yen is a local person from Hsao-Hu. Before he started Mei-Fung Popsicle City, he pr a yed to a local goddess: Sun-Tai-Tze. He was suggested by the goddess that he should do businesses related to water. He then founded Mei-Fung Popsicle City. In the 80s there were more than 20 taro popsicle stores nearby from Ti-Li Bridge to Hsao-Hou Bridge , and Mei-Fung Popsicle City was the most popular one.

Former President Chiang visited Ta-Chia with Mr. Hsieh Tung-Ming while he was the premier in year 1975, and he praised the Mei-Fung Taro Popsicles with high compliments. Later he visited the place for more then a dozen times. Former President Lee also visited the place while he was mayor and while he was V ice P resident. Besides, Former State mayor Song and other government officials are frequent guests of Mei-Fung.

Traditional handmade method of making the popsicles cannot sustain the high demand from the public. Thus, Lin Shi-Shen from the second generation of the family developed an automated production line, which not only increased the volume of popsicle making, but also increased a stability and sanitary level of the product. Further more, new flavors were also created. Despite using the frequent used fat, emulsification stabilizer, artificial spices and pigments in the popsicles, he also added new ingredients such as lecithin into the product. Packaging was also modified to the "one bit" pack, which made it more convenient to serve. One can often taste multiple flavors at one time.
